The tech world is filled with promises to “disrupt,” but few actually succeed.

TechCrunch Disrupt is a flagship conference where disrupting the status quo is not only welcomed, but expected.

From Oct. 27-29 at San Francisco’s Moscone West, everyone from startup founders to industry leaders can network, share their ideas, and find inspiration.

Professionals inside and outside the dating industry will want to pay special attention to the conference’s AI stage, which will feature panels covering a hot-button issue of our time: the AI revolution — or as others would put it, the AI takeover.

What happens when technology takes the wheel in our love lives?” This is the question leaders from across the tech world will attempt to answer in “Love, Lies, & Algorithms: The Truth About AI in Matters of the Heart,” a panel dedicated in part to the intersection of AI and dating platforms.

The Panel Will Discuss How AI and Humanity Mix

On Oct. 29, Dr. Amanda Gesselman of the Kinsey Institute will take the AI stage as part of the “Love, Lies, & Algorithms” panel. She and her fellow panelists will discuss how humanity and technology intertwine — and the potential downsides — when developers use AI to bring platforms to life.

“This panel explores how technology is reshaping modern relationships, for better or worse,” according to the panel description. “From dating apps to digital soulmates, we’ll look at where things are headed and what that means for the human heart.”

This includes whether intimacy can be optimized by AI, the psychological impact that comes from combining tech and human emotions, and the ethical questions that arise when the two are linked.

The conversation explores one of the biggest concerns associated with the AI debate: Can combining emotions and technological advancements ever truly end well?

Dr. Gesselman is uniquely qualified to discuss tech’s impact on the human heart. As the head of research analytics at the Kinsey Institute, Gesselman often dives into digital intimacy and how modern daters balance a need for technology with a desire for authentic romance

Insights Will Come From Tech, Product, and Social Experts

Attendees won’t only hear from Dr. Gesselman, but from a diverse group of AI experts, including Mark Kantor, Head of Product at Tinder, and Eugenia Kuyda, founder of Replika.

Each panelist provides a different perspective into the AI debate — Dr. Gesselman into research and psychology, Kantor into innovation and product development, and Kuyda into social media and emotional connection.

According to TechCrunch Disrupt, the panelists will provide insights into “how the next generation of dating and connection is being influenced by intelligent algorithms.” And perhaps most interestingly to dating professionals, they’ll discuss “what founders need to know in this space.”

Dating professionals at the intersection of love and AI can keep their eyes peeled for other relevant panels, including one with Karandeep Anand, CEO of Character.AI, and another with Alejandro Matamala Ortiz, CDO of Runway, about the future of creative AI.

“Founders will get a first look at the technologies defining the next wave of innovation and will hear the strategies, lessons, and insights directly from the teams building them,” TechCrunch Disrupt reported.

As developers integrate AI into dating platforms, insights from diverse corners of the industry — including from Dr. Gesselman, Kantor, and Kuyda — will become all the more valuable.
