If dating and social platforms are going to successfully combat fraud, they’re going to have to work together.

This is the sentiment behind Match Group’s new collaboration with Stop Scams UK. The two entities joined forces to pool their resources and prevent online fraud, but the collaboration also comes with a financial perk.

By bringing multiple industry leaders together to work toward a common goal, Stop Scams UK intends to boost economic growth as much as online safety in the UK.

According to Stop Scams UK, Match Group is dedicated to meeting the safety needs of the consumer by sharing intelligence, widening safety outreach, and establishing industrywide anti-scam standards.

“With fraud becoming the most common crime across England and Wales, amounting to 41% of all crime, effective detection and prevention requires collaboration among industry, government, and law enforcement,” Stop Scams UK members wrote in a joint statement

Match Group’s Vice President of Trust & Safety, Yoel Roth, said, “Match Group is committed to engaging in data exchange initiatives with Stop Scams UK to identify opportunities to detect novel fraud actors and disrupt their cross-channel tactics.”

Cross-Industry Collaboration is Key to Combatting Fraud

Stop Scams UK calls the collaboration “a mutually-beneficial ecosystem” that will ideally “lead to the wider dissemination of data.”

Stop Scams UK has high-profile members, from Amazon, Google, and Meta to BT Group, Monzo Bank, and HSBC, among others.

“Through our pilot work to share fraud data between industry sectors, we have proved that collaboration gets ahead of the criminals and defeats fraudsters,” Stop Scams UK chair Ruth Evans said.

When companies work together toward a common goal, particularly if the goal only seeks to benefit the user, it drives consumer confidence and perhaps even brand loyalty. “As a united front [we] will build greater consumer awareness, safeguard more individuals, and bring more criminals to justice,” she said.

Putting Consumers — and the Economy — Before Competition

Collaboration between competing companies does not always come easy.

Stop Scams UK has acknowledged how legal considerations and privacy concerns often get in the way of cross-sector collaborations. What makes members of Stop Scams UK unique is that they are all “businesses who want to do more and move fast.”

“We provide the resource, leadership, and trusted space for our members to share problems, identify opportunities, overcome blockers, pilot and deliver replicable, scalable projects,” according to Stop Scams UK’s site.

Oftentimes, the only thing standing in the way of innovative solutions is distrust.

James Babbage, Director General (Threats) at the National Crime Agency, emphasized how important trust is between competing companies and the consumers, especially when they all have a common enemy.

“Partnerships between the public and the private sector are vital and Stop Scams UK are key innovators in this space, enabling and supporting the sharing of data to prevent crime,” he said.

As Stop Scams UK noted, this high level of collaboration sets a new safety precedent. It finally puts fraud prevention first in an ever-digitized world, something Roth said himself at a 2025 South by Southwest event

“We were all dealing with the same threats and challenges in the scam space but were not doing a great job at comparing notes or working together on those issues,” Roth said of the dating and crypto industries. “We started to think through what the opportunities for collaboration could look like.”

This collaboration translated into the Tech Against Scams Coalition. The goal is to “create a united front” and become a more effective opponent against scammers; this goal translates into Match Group’s similar collaboration with Stop Scams UK.

With Stop Scams UK, Match Group’s efforts expand into new territory, promising further innovation — not to mention progress — in the ongoing fight against scams.
