The Scoop: Dr. Patti Britton is a pioneering sexologist on a mission to share her open-hearted and open-minded perspective with mental health professionals around the world. She founded Sex Coach U to train up-and-coming sex coaches. Now she hosts enlightening six-day training retreats called ASPEX for professionals who want to master sex coaching and become more compassionate guides for singles and couples. Throughout her career, Dr. Patti has conducted hundreds of workshops and trainings that foster an open dialogue about healthy sexual relationships.
For the last few years, sex coach trainer Dr. Patti Britton has led transformative retreats to support, educate, and empower sex experts in a variety of fields. She founded Sex Coach U to spread a sex-positive message to professionals working with singles and couples.
Adavanced Sexological Personal Exploration Xperience (ASPEX) is an intensive program that celebrates sexual expression and trains sexologists and mental health professionals to be more knowledgeable and supportive when working with people experiencing sexual issues.
ASPEX awakens the heart, mind, and body in engaging, interpersonal experiences and lessons. The retreat is action-packed with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. The sex leaders shake things up from the very beginning with a biodanza — or dance therapy — session in an open field. The music and movement combine to release tension and create a strong emotional bond between participants.
At ASPEX, sex professionals come together to learn, heal, and grow in an uplifting, sex-positive environment. Participants go on a journey of self-discovery to deepen their understanding of human sexuality and improve their ability to help singles and couples dealing with sexual issues.
Dr. Patti has written books, conducted workshops, and given lectures on human sexuality, but she said her training retreats are the most rewarding work to her because she can see her message resonate with professionals who then spread the word — and the healing — in their own practices.
“People connect with themselves and open their hearts during these retreats,” Dr. Patti said. “They find clarity and a community. They leave feeling a sense of unity with professionals who do this type of work.”
A Variety of Programs Emphasize Sensitivity & Openness
Dr. Patti Britton has been in the field of clinical sexology for over 35 years, and she has earned praise as a sex therapist and educator from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
AASECT is a nonprofit organization that promotes a healthy understanding of human sexuality in the fields of sexual therapy, counseling, and education. Since 1967, this group has advanced research and education on sexual topics, including polyamory, gender identity, and pornography. Its body of knowledge is helpful to professionals looking to become sex experts like Dr. Patti Britton of Sex Coach U.
Dr. Patti Britton has established Sex Coach U to further inspire and inform clinical sexologists and sex coaches. She runs two-day Sexual Attitude Reassessment and Restructuring (SAR) trainings.
These in-depth trainings encourage attendees to confront their own attitudes and beliefs about sexual behavior and sexual orientation. The coursework involves a deliberate exposure to a wide spectrum of sexual preferences, kinks, and fetishes.
Through SAR, the sexologists gain familiarity with all the different ways people experience and seek sexual gratification. Sometimes the course involves real-life testimonials or demonstrations by consenting adults, and other times it uses pornographic images or videos to open a dialogue about sexual expression.
“Sexologists need to be able to serve the needs of their patients without imposing their own belief systems and value judgments,” Dr. Patti said. “They need to understand their own biases so it doesn’t impede their ability to reach people and help them achieve sexual wellness.”
ASPEX 2019 Offers a Powerful, Intensive Experience
Dr. Patti founded Sex Coach U to teach individuals how to become effective and compassionate sex coaches. She has created an abundance of resources to help professionals learn the ropes (sometimes literally) and gain a holistic, dynamic, and positive perspective on human sexuality.
Her ASPEX retreats specialize in helping sex clinicians, coaches, and mental health professionals expand their boundaries and get in touch with their sexual energies.
ASPEX held its first gathering in Warsaw, Poland, about six years ago, and now Dr. Patti is conducting one last Poland retreat at the end of May 2019. The retreat includes six days and five nights at an idyllic location in the countryside where participants will enjoy a sacred space to explore, relax, and discover.
Dr. Patti assured us that everything they do is driven by consent. The trainers ask participants to give explicit consent before every new experience and interaction. They won’t even give someone a hug without asking if it’s O.K. first.
While ASPEX is about pushing boundaries and unleashing sexuality, it is done in a safe, gentle, and responsible way. Trained sexologists lead every exercise and ensure all 30 participants feel comfortable and can reach their full potential. The retreat can offer a transformational and liberating journey for sex professionals open to growing their understanding of sensuality.
“I want people to really take advantage of our time together and get away from their everyday cares,” Dr. Patti said. “The experience is rich and immersive, and it can have a profound impact on people.”
Participants Find Clarity & Joy in Their Role as Healers
A small team of clinical sexologists and assistants run at least one ASPEX retreat year. They have traveled all over the world — from Hawaii to Poland — to spread a message of sex positivity. This nonjudgmental team creates a safe space where professionals can talk about sex, desire, and the human body without shame.
The team’s support is instrumental to the success of the event. They bolster participants, guide healing meditations, and offer deep insights into healthy sexual expression.
ASPEX prompts individuals to go on a journey to discover their own sexuality. The training sessions and exercises reinforce the idea that sex is a healthy, natural part of life, and everyone expresses sexual desire in their own way.
“What I got there was a gift. A gift of being in a beautiful bubble for those five days… and being with beautiful people.” — Anika, an ASPEX participant
Sex experts from 10 countries have taken part in these retreats and built a professional community based on shared values and understanding. These intimate gatherings have a strong impact on participants who are open to change.
“It was really a treat for me personally,” said Anika, a sex coach who came to an ASPEX gathering in Poland. “During ASPEX, I finally had a chance to live it and to experience all the beautiful aspects of my own sexuality. The mind, the body, the energy, the emotion, the spirit — everything came together in those five days.”
Dr. Patti said she has seen many ASPEX participants awaken their senses during the retreat and leave with the glow of a new state of being.
“When you go through an experience like this, you feel powerful,” she said. “You’re rejuvenated. You may not be who you thought you were.”
Dr. Patti Creates a Pathway to Greater Understanding
For over 35 years, Dr. Patti has counseled singles and couples facing a variety of relationship issues and sexual dysfunctions. She has mastered coaching techniques to build trust between intimate partners and open people up to new sexual experiences. For the last decade, through her organization Sex Coach U, Dr. Patti has been training the next generation of sex coaches to be more empathetic, open-minded, and enlightened.
Whether they’re meditating in the morning or dancing freely under the stars, ASPEX participants learn to honor the connection between mind and body as they explore their own sexuality.
ASPEX offers a sex-positive education program where professionals can hone their coaching skills and build a rapport with fellow sex clinicians. Dr. Patti told us it has been a privilege to change so many lives by debunking sex myths, clearing mental blocks, and building sexual intelligence.
“It’s rare to be in the presence of such sex positivity,” she said. “We’ve created a container of safety, protection, and freedom, and it has had a profound impact on clinical sexologists and mental health professionals.”
