The Scoop: Dating experts have a lot of competition in the industry, and it can be a challenge to make their brands and advice stand out to singles. Celebrity dating and empowerment coach Laurel House has made a concerted effort to make a good impression (she calls it being sticky) on potential clients and win their trust by marketing her upfront, original, and innovative coaching style on a variety of mediums. In recent weeks, she has sought to grow her influence and audience by launching a weekly podcast for singles and couples facing a variety of relationship obstacles. By giving listeners access to her advice, she hopes to not only help more people but also attract more notoriety for the life-changing guidance she offers daters of all ages.
Laurel House entered the dating industry in 2010 because she wanted to make a difference. Since then, she has made it her business to change lives in the modern dating world. Now Laurel is a celebrity dating and empowerment coach who gives her clients the inside scoop on how to attract interest and make a relationship last.
You don’t become an empowerment coach by being shy about giving your opinions, and Laurel House is quick to tell singles what they’re doing right or wrong in their love lives. She was married twice and proposed to several times in her 20s, and she claims to have experience making every mistake under the sun — until at last getting it right in her late 30s.
When she met a successful lawyer on a dating website, she knew her dating troubles were over. They got married at a winery in Sonoma in October 2017, the day after her 40th birthday, and her young son walked her down the aisle.
From the get-go, Laurel takes ownership of her dating history and relationship mistakes as a way of letting her clients know she isn’t perfect, but she is brutally honest. Her experience and authenticity has earned her a loyal following on YouTube, where she has nearly 62,000 subscribers and over 25 million views. However, she isn’t done finding new ways to change minds and inspire love stories.
She recently launched a Cyrano Dating service where she takes over her client’s online dating profile, doing all the swiping and communicating on their behalf, and delivers a one-sheet of phone numbers from desirable date candidates.
In August 2018, Laurel plans to launch a podcast called “The Man Whisperer” to highlight her dating and relationship advice and reach a broader audience of modern daters.
Laurel said she has wanted to start a podcast ever since she began appearing as a guest expert on podcasts run by her friends and colleagues in the industry. Now, she and her co-host Robert Mack will deliver the same dynamic dating coaching that made them so successful on the reality TV show “Famously Single.”
“It’s been in my mind as something I’ve wanted to do for years now,” she said, “and I’m finally dedicating time to do it.”
The Man Whisperer: Clarifying Dating for Women (& Men)
Laurel’s love-oriented podcast will launch in August in conjunction with a webinar she will be hosting for Match.com. The webinar is called “How to Be a Man Whisperer,” and the podcast will be called “The Man Whisperer,” so the two products will go hand in hand. Laurel earned the title “Man Whisperer” from a male client who said he finally understood women after working with her. The dating coach defines a “Man Whisperer” as someone who can translate dating behaviors to both genders and thus provide clarity to potentially confusing and nerve-wracking situations.
“I’m excited about the podcast because it’s going to be a platform for me to talk to more people, not just the people I coach or the people who come across my YouTube videos,” she said.
The podcast will focus on one issue per weekly episode. Laurel will lead a discussion based on her experience as a dating coach and a single adult. She and her co-host Robert will cover online dating, first date etiquette, commitment issues, relationship struggles, and dating as a single parent in a comprehensive ask-me-anything format.
“I am known for my edgy advice,” she said, “and giving people permission to be authentic to whomever they are and whatever they need, as opposed to what everyone else says they should do.”
Laurel said she may sometimes have a guest expert or a client to facilitate a constructive and instructive dialogue, but she plans to mostly attack the subject of love on her own merits.
“I just want to talk about perception and dating and what it’s like,” she said. “It’ll be the full breadth of everything dating and relationships.”
Sharing Insights as a Flirting & Communication Expert
Working individually with clients can be time-consuming, so Laurel has direct her energy to finding creative ways to help people without taking on more coaching clients than she can handle.
In recent years, Laurel has become a spokesperson for different companies, expanding her brand by partnering with a sex-toy company, a diamond retailer, a fashion company, and other dating-related businesses. “It’s been a great platform expander,” she said, “and something I really enjoy doing.”
Laurel’s work as a spokesperson further highlights her expertise in different mediums. By drawing from her coaching experience and reputation, she can write up advice articles, provide quotes, create special videos, or give publicity to companies in need of dating or fashion expertise. She has even provided dating tips via Got Milk to help singles find their perfect match.
“The idea is to be able to expand my audience and my reach, and not necessarily always have to work one on one,” she said. “As much as I love my clients — as much as I care about and think about them — I like the idea of pulling away a little bit so I can have some of my life also without feeling like I’m always a doctor on call.”
Laurel’s Candid Advice Motivates Singles to Improve
Laurel has experience tackling many different emotional issues, ranging from difficulties getting a date to fear of commitment, and she delivers sage advice in a forthright and positive tone. Her down-to-earth approach has helped her gain a solid audience on YouTube, and she expects to have similar success in the world of podcasting.
“The Man Whisperer” is her latest project in her quest to influence dating habits for the better and help today’s singles learn from her experiences and insights. She has proven that she doesn’t have to work one on one with singles to have an impact on their love lives. Through her podcasts, webinars, and videos, she can effectively expand her brand and give potential clients a feel for what coaching sessions with her are like. Laurel said she is particularly excited to start podcasting and explore a new medium that has a lot of potential for growth.
“My goal is just to help people in all dating and relationship facets, answering questions and addressing things that are difficult, scary, or intimidating to talk about,” she said. “People might fear judgment from friends, relatives, or colleagues, but this is a forum to talk about it.”
