Delbert Ty has officially stepped down as Chief Marketing Officer at Coffee Meets Bagel.

Ty was the driving force behind several achievements at the dating platform, including Coffee Meets Bagel’s unique content creation brand strategy. His efforts resulted in an impressive 50% growth for the company.

“I’ve been really lucky to have joined CMB at the time that I did,” he told Marketing Interactive. “With that said, CMB is now headed in a different direction and I thought it was a good time to start my own thing.”

Ty is no stranger to bringing creative ideas to life. At Coffee Meets Bagel, he established a four-day work week without sacrificing efficiency.

He also spearheaded several features, including one that allows users to collect enough “beans” — Coffee Meets Bagel’s in-app currency — to buy and send someone flowers. Still, Ty’s favorite part of the job was deep in the details.

Ty told Marketing Interactive that the “boring but essential” things he worked on are what separated Coffee Meets Bagel from the pack of dating platforms with similar goals.

“Scaling marketing with creator content, building a globally aligned team across time zones, and patching together a sustainable martech stack without bothering engineering — that’s the stuff I’ll remember,” he said.

Ty’s passion for sustainable and imaginative marketing strategies will undoubtedly drive the next phase of his career. Just don’t expect to see him back in the C-suite on a full-time basis.

“I’ve actually rejected some full-time gigs to go fractional,” he explained. “I’ve always wanted to try it out because of the ownership of time and diversity of projects it brings.” So far, he’s divided his expertise between truly diverse industries, from eCommerce to an AI startup.

According to his LinkedIn, he founded brand consultancy company TynkTank Pte Ltd. in April.

Looking forward, Ty said he hopes that his tried-and-true approach to his career continues to work in his favor. “My career has been a series of jumps into the unknown, from FMCG to tech to dating and now being fractional. What’s common across all these choices is a choice to bet on myself and a healthy dose of luck! Hopefully that continues.”

Coffee Meets Bagel has not commented on Ty’s departure or who will fill his position going forward.
