Grindr is expanding the test of its new AI-powered subscription tier, EDGE, to select U.S. cities and Canada.
The premium tier was already being tested in Australia and New Zealand. Grindr updated its announcement about EDGE on Aug. 30 to include the new markets.
EDGE puts AI features throughout the Grindr app.
One feature, called A-List, keeps track of conversations and missed connections so users can find people they may want to talk to again. Another gives users a daily selection of recommended profiles.
There are also Profile Insights, which use additional information to help users figure out who they may be compatible with.
But how much will EDGE cost? Grindr doesn’t know yet.
The company is testing different prices with eligible users to see what people are willing to pay. In Canada, some of those test prices worked out to about $350 to $375 a month in U.S. dollars, according to TechCrunch.
That doesn’t mean EDGE will actually cost $375 a month.
Grindr CEO George Arison told TechCrunch the company tested a range of prices, and the numbers that circulated online were only one part of that test. EDGE will sit above the company’s existing XTRA and Unlimited subscriptions.
Grindr said prices shown during the pilot are randomized among eligible users. Its existing subscription plans aren’t changing, and users don’t have to buy EDGE to continue using Grindr.
The company is also giving users some control over the AI tools. Grindr said the features can be turned off in privacy settings and sensitive health information won’t be used by its AI.
For now, EDGE is still a test.
Arison told TechCrunch the company plans to launch the subscription more broadly toward the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
