The Scoop: WOLACO athletic gear can help make fitness a more comfortable part of daily life. The Way of Life Athletic Company — or WOLACO — makes fitness clothing for individuals and couples who want to integrate running, hiking, biking, going to the gym, and other high-intensity activities into their routines. WOLACO products, including compression shorts with sweat-proof pockets for keys and mobile devices, simplify modern workouts for on-the-go athletes.

Terry White loves running, and he said he feels it is an easily accessible activity in New York City, where he lives. He said he exercises every day to feel better and make a positive choice that helps his work and personal life.

But back in 2015, Terry found a significant problem with his running routine: his athletic gear.

“Whenever I left my apartment in New York City to go for a run, I was stuffing my apartment keys in my socks,” he said.

Terry said he realized that many others in the city likely shared his problem, so he came up with an idea to create compression shorts with sweat-proof pockets. Athletes could put their phones or keys in the short pockets to keep them safe and dry while exercising.

WOLACO can help couples get fit while remaining comfortable.

That was the idea that launched the Way of Life Athletic Company (WOLACO), Terry said. The company’s first product would be Terry’s compression shorts to make exercise easier and more rewarding.

And customers demonstrated how much they wanted the shorts — and more. In 2015, WOLACO’s Kickstarter campaign for the compression shorts raised more than $120,000.

Couples found that, in addition to storing keys and mobile devices while at the gym or outdoors, compression shorts also promote fitness. They can reduce muscle fatigue and prevent soreness after a workout. They can also protect against muscle strain during a challenging workout.

At first, the company only sold men’s compression shorts, but the product became so popular that women started buying them, too. That’s why WOLACO introduced a women’s apparel and compression product line.

Now, couples can wear matching WOLACO gear when they schedule a workout date.

“We get a lot of photos of couples who are hiking wearing our compression shorts. It’s cool to see these fit couples who love our products,” Terry said.

Choosing the Right Gear for You and Your Partner

WOLACO’s clients are mostly urban millennials and Gen Zs who care about integrating fitness into their lives without adding hassle. They don’t necessarily exercise all the time, but they do make fitness an essential part of their daily routines.

“Our customers aren’t overly macho fitness junkies. They like to hike together, do yoga together, explore new cities, go for runs. Our products are great at facilitating that,” Terry said.

WOLACO has made a name for itself as a uniquely New York City brand. Since its inception, the company has consistently engaged members of the local community.

The company has also made improvements and modifications to its bestselling compression shorts. WOLACO makes compression pants and leggings for women and has an ever-growing list of satisfied clients.

“Your product is awesome, and I plan on ordering more. Superior to Under Armour, without a doubt. Hope you keep the quality materials, wide waistband, and heavy stitching. I’m a fan!” one customer wrote in an online testimonial.

Another user agreed, writing, “My friends think it’s weird that a pair of compression shorts was the motivating factor behind changing my life, but once they get a pair, they understand. Thank you for the incredible product that you offer. As weird as it may be, it was just the thing I need to get my life active again.”

Women can also purchase cropped, full, or long-sleeve T-shirts appropriate for different athletic events or active dates.

Men can buy shorts, as well, along with a variety of shirts. WOLACO also sells a men’s hoodie for working out, lounging, or casual errands around the city.

How Physical Fitness Can Improve Relationships

The pandemic has undoubtedly interrupted daily life. But once the virus is under control, people will want to return to their active lifestyles. They may start running once or twice a week but can’t push themselves like they once did. It can be harder to get excited about their fitness goals.

But working out with a partner could help introduce fitness back into a routine more quickly.

Working out with a partner is better than working out alone for many reasons. For one, everyone could use someone to help motivate them. If couples schedule a running date in the morning, they can wake up together and hold each other accountable.

WOLACO offers a variety of high-performance products for both men and women.

According to a recent study, partners who make lifestyle changes together are more likely to keep up with those changes over the long term because active dates can help partners bond emotionally. Exercising raises endorphin levels, which can make people feel happier, too.

Couples who jog together, toss a ball, or play tennis, may even be more attuned to their partner’s non-verbal cues. That, according to Healthline, can lead to greater feelings of bonding with their partner.

WOLACO’s clothes are well-suited to any active situation couples find themselves in, from mountain hiking to running on treadmills side by side during a gym date.

WOLACO: Expanding Offers to Attract More Fitness Lovers

Terry may be the CEO of an athletic gear company today, but he knows how easy it can be sometimes to fall out of a workout routine. In college, he was the captain of the lacrosse team and reached the height of his physical prowess.

But after graduation, Terry moved to New York City, started a new job, and wanted to explore the city. He started dating and making friends. And his regular fitness routine was the first thing that went out the window.

“It was tough to figure out how to add health and fitness into my daily routine,” he said.

Soon, Terry said he was feeling more lethargic, and his moods weren’t as consistent as they once were. Not only does a sedentary lifestyle lead to health problems like heart disease and diabetes, but it also increases symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Terry said he decided to take back his life and reintegrate exercise into his daily routine. WOLACO staff recognizes how effective its team atmosphere can be in motivating physical fitness. Promoting an athletic community in New York City and beyond is important to the company, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We started a virtual run team. You can be anywhere in the world and be part of the run team,” Terry said.

Motivation to exercise can be in short supply when you are stuck at home. Terry said he is glad he has created a company that promotes healthy lifestyles for individuals and couples.

“Your mental and physical health comes before everything. If we don’t take care of that, you’re not the most effective version of yourself,” Terry said.
