A Trio of Tea Lovers Started the Company
Eight years ago, Udyan Tea launched in India, a country where drinking tea is a part of most people’s daily routines.
As a tea-drinking culture, the nation consumes a significant amount of tea each year. India is the world’s second-largest tea grower, and about 81 percent of the tea grown in the country is consumed domestically. But because many Indian tea growers export their best leaves out of the country, it was lacking a specialty tea company.
That’s why Soveet and his friends Punit Poddar and Parvez Gupta decided to launch a high-end tea company in India. Punit brought his experience as a tea taster to the company.
“He’s had a job as a tea taster for about 12 years, and he’s tasted more than 2 million cups of tea. On a daily basis, he tastes about 800 to 1,000 cups of tea,” Soveet told us.

The founders’ mission was to address India’s premium tea market by providing access to high-quality tea leaves and blends. The hunch that the country needed a high-end tea company was correct: Udyan Tea soon gained a following across the country.
As the brand grew, the team continued to develop partnerships with regional tea producers, especially those in the world-renowned tea-growing area of Darjeeling.
“All of the producers were exporting it to other countries. We wanted to get teas from Darjeeling and other local regions and make it accessible to people in India,” said Soveet.
About six years ago, Udyan decided to expand outside of India, and now the company provides high-end teas and blends to consumers in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
Offering More Than 40 Varieties
Over the years, the Udyan Tea team has developed more than 40 teas and tea blends that highlight its high-quality leaves. For the couple who prefers white tea for a date, the Himalayan White Tea or the Lavender Dew White Tea is the optimal choice.
Chai lovers can choose from one of six chai blends or purchase a sampler that allows them to savor every variety.
“Each of our products has a unique taste. It’s healthy, too. It isn’t high in caffeine, and it has antioxidants,” said Soveet.
Udyan Tea customers are often connoisseurs who expect excellent quality. Customers appreciate the blend of herbs, spices, and flowers that add intensity and complexity to their date night teas.
Soveet also said that tea could be a thoughtful gift for a significant other.
“If you’re giving a pack of tea to someone, you’ll also be ensuring they have something healthy, as opposed to coffee, chocolate, or other sweets. It engages the senses of smell, sight, and taste, and so many are visually amazing,” he said.

“Gift boxes are a good reflection of the importance we put on the design aspect of the brand,” Soveet said.
